Celtic Deities: Their Connection to Your Business Strategy

The Search for Celtic Deities
What happened to the Celtic deities? This question lingered in my mind as I began my research for my books. While there’s a plethora of Scottish literature and extensive resources on Norse mythology, the same cannot be said for Celtic deities. This discovery was rather fortuitous for me.
As someone of substantial Irish descent—almost half, in fact—I have a deep connection to my heritage. I'm also nearly half Italian. On St. Patrick’s Day, I proudly embrace my Irish roots, stemming from my O'Connell ancestry in Munster, a region celebrated for its literary heritage, boasting names like Swift, Joyce, Yeats, O'Brien, and Rooney. And now, I guess I can add my name to that list!
While many celebrate their Irish identity during specific holidays, there’s a noticeable lack of literature centered on Irish mythology. My quest for information about Celtic deities led me to realize that unless you delve into some dry academic texts, references are scarce. There are plenty of paranormal romance novels that touch on similar themes, but I found few that directly address the myths themselves.
Despite my passion for Marvel, I was disappointed to find only two characters linked to Celtic mythology in that universe. This absence motivated me to create representation for my heritage, which is why I chose to write about Celtic deities!
Filling a Gap in the Market
Through my research, I identified a unique gap in the market—a need that was not being met. Romance novels featuring Celtic deities were non-existent. You might be thinking, “Great for you!” but there’s a benefit for you as well, and here’s why.
I recall a statement from Kevin O'Leary on Shark Tank, where he emphasized that the key to any successful business is meeting a market demand that is underserved, while also presenting it in an innovative way.
The first two points may sound similar, but they can differ significantly. Meeting a market need could mean creating something entirely new or offering a solution that many are seeking but is currently lacking. Does that resonate?
I wanted to see Celtic gods and goddesses represented in literature. I can discuss Greek, Roman, and Norse myths extensively due to my interests in history, psychology, and spirituality. However, the narratives of Celtic deities seemed to have vanished, particularly after the rise of Christianity.
My journey toward writing a novel was somewhat serendipitous. My interest in the Salem Witch Trials led me to research Bridget Bishop, the first woman tried and executed. This investigation introduced me to Brigid, a Celtic goddess. While I won’t give away too much, these two threads ultimately inspired my romance novel, which I aimed to enrich with various Celtic deities, allowing readers to learn about them in an engaging manner.
Applying Unique Perspectives to Your Business
This principle can be applied across various endeavors. If your passion is already saturated with competition, consider how you can inject your unique twist to make it fresh and captivating.
Or, think about something you've always wanted but could never find. Addressing a widespread problem is crucial to achieving success.
That was my motivation for writing about Celtic gods. I’m not certain how many others share my quest for this knowledge—perhaps a poll could shed light on it—but I know it was something I was passionate about.
