Discovering My Identity Through Writing Challenges
Written on
Chapter 1: Embracing the Challenge
Recently, I collaborated with Logan Silkwood on a writing challenge titled "Two Truths And A Lie." Participants shared three narratives—two factual and one fabricated. The formal phase of the challenge concluded yesterday, and the outcomes were quite revealing.
This experience prompted me to take a moment to reflect on what I discovered about myself. Over the course of three days, I crafted three relatively detailed stories, which was an achievement I felt proud of. Moving forward, I plan to experiment with daily writing for a couple of weeks to see how it unfolds. However, be prepared for a mix of content, as my interests are evolving. Expect to see more on LGBTQ+ themes, spirituality, photography, creative writing (you might be surprised by the genres), poetry, and whatever else sparks my imagination!
Section 1.1: Insights from the Challenge
Through this challenge, I identified several key lessons:
- I struggle with deadlines—writing a story in 10 minutes is unrealistic for me; I typically need 2-3 hours for each piece. While I may be slow, I take pride in the quality of my work.
- I write deliberately, even under time constraints—this has been confirmed.
- Although I hesitated to include a lie in my stories, I recognize its purpose within the challenge.
Subsection 1.1.1: Personal Realizations
Section 1.2: Acknowledging What I Know About Myself
Here are some insights I already had, which you may not know:
- I prefer not to sneak a peek; I avoided the reveals of the results, unless someone disclosed their truths in our Discord group. I also tend to refrain from unwrapping gifts prematurely.
- I often take myself too seriously, and I’m actively working on this—expect another article on this topic soon.
- I continue to navigate issues of scarcity and boundaries, learning to assess whether I would feel comfortable missing out on something before giving my consent.
Chapter 2: The Truth Behind My Stories
The first video titled "Learning About Myself" delves into the journey of self-exploration through storytelling. It emphasizes the importance of understanding one's identity and experiences.
The stories I shared were as follows:
- Story #1: The Killing Jar – A true account of my experiences with a pet gerbil.
- Story #2: Ninja Rats – A heartfelt narrative about my first rat litter and the little sisters that inspired me.
- Story #3: Close Encounters of the Spirit – An exploration of my early experiences with spirituality and an unexpected turn.
Spoilers ahead!
My story revelations are as follows:
- Story #1: The Killing Jar – True. Heartbreaking but real.
- Story #2: Ninja Rats – True. Clara was my beloved companion.
- Story #3: Close Encounters of the Spirit – True. More insights to come soon!
The second video, "Learning About Myself Lesson Start-up," discusses the initial steps of self-discovery through creative endeavors, encouraging viewers to embrace their unique paths.
Final Thoughts
Reflecting on this challenge, I realize I gained more than I anticipated. Knowing that I could accomplish this made me feel competent! I intend to continue exploring this creative outlet and see where it leads. Logan Silkwood, you may just have a talent for teaching! 💕
