Mindset: The Key to Overcoming Challenges
In life, we often face unexpected challenges, and how we respond can determine our success. A positive mindset is crucial, especially for writers who contend with their own fears and anxieties. When health issues come into play, these fears can intensify. However, it’s essential to put on a brave face and keep pushing forward; your determination will ultimately yield results.
Preparing for Surgery: Mental Resilience
Recently, I found myself gearing up mentally for an outpatient surgery. Though it was a relatively minor procedure on my foot and ankle, I still felt a sense of fear. Since 2021, my mobility had been severely limited, filled with various assistive devices around my home. Despite the support of my strong husband, I missed the simple joy of quickly moving from one room to another with my laptop, or visiting my favorite writing spots.
Writing Amidst Adversity
As I navigated through these challenges, I held on to hope that the surgery would improve my condition. My desire was to stand, walk, and perhaps even jog again. Yet, a nagging doubt loomed in my mind, whispering that things might not improve. This same voice often tries to convince me that I’m not a legitimate writer, that I’m merely filling time until I can return to a conventional job. But I refuse to give in; despite my physical challenges, my creative spirit is thriving.
Regardless of whether the surgery meets my expectations, I am committed to continuing my journey. Whether using a walker, a wheelchair, or my Zeen mobility aid, I will find a way to keep writing.

Overcoming Setbacks: Finding Peace in Writing
This morning, as the anesthesia began to fade, I experienced a surge of pain. Thankfully, I had taken pain medication beforehand, which mitigated the discomfort. While the pain disturbed my sleep, writing brought me solace. I contemplated how to navigate this latest challenge. My initial plan to edit and prepare multiple posts was simplified to just one for the day of surgery, but I remained optimistic.
As I often remind myself, “Don’t let anything stand in the way of your dreams, not even your own doubts.”
