However, if you’re still with me, I’d like to highlight my favorite books by him, including "When the Body Says No" and "Scattered Minds" (which I’ll discuss another time). For now, let's explore the essential insights from "When the Body Says No," a thought-provoking examination of how stress and unprocessed emotions contribute to various physical ailments.

  • Emotional mastery involves four main components: recognizing your emotions, expressing them, establishing personal boundaries, and distinguishing between present emotional reactions and unaddressed feelings from the past, often rooted in childhood.
  • Gabor Maté argues that stress arises when these criteria are unmet, leading to homeostatic disruption and, ultimately, health issues.
  • Children who lacked emotional support from their parents often grow up excessively independent, fearing rejection and avoiding seeking help.

Practicing detachment offers a sense of peace. It doesn’t mean suppressing emotions or abandoning aspirations; rather, it’s about recognizing that true results come when we relinquish the urge to control every situation. Focus on doing your best and trust that everything will unfold as it should—because it often does.
