# Unconventional Productivity Hacks That Can Save You Time

Chapter 1: Introduction to Creative Productivity
As a busy creator, I understand the struggle of finding time to produce my work. Crafting beautiful content that appears to have been meticulously developed over several days often takes only a few hours, and I wish I could dedicate more time to this process. However, with the demands of family and life, I have had to learn some innovative techniques to maximize my productivity.
I've experimented with various strategies that have allowed me to generate a significant amount of content, all while managing the needs of my highly sensitive 8-year-old and an active toddler. I’d love to share some of my unconventional time-saving methods with you. Some of them may seem a bit odd, but they are surprisingly effective.
The "Copy and Upgrade" Technique
Hold on! I'm not advocating for copying others' work—please don’t ever do that. It's not only illegal but also unethical.
Instead, I take one of my well-received articles, duplicate it, and paste it into my editor. From there, I revise the paragraphs and adjust my arguments, effectively rewriting the whole piece while enhancing its quality. This method allows me to produce fresh content quickly, sometimes even in under an hour. The original framework is in place, which means I spend less time organizing my thoughts under each heading.
Curious about how I discovered this trick? It emerged when I encountered a severe case of writer's block. By revisiting past works, I found that the existing words helped spark new ideas, allowing me to break free from the stagnation. This technique not only saves time but also offers new perspectives on previous topics.
The "Improve on Existing Ideas" Method
Have you ever read something and thought, "I could have added a unique twist to this"? I certainly have. I often find that I can enhance existing articles with my own insights.
Using the copy-and-upgrade technique, you can take an article like "10 ways to do X" and transform it into "11 genius ways to do X." This method allows you to repurpose existing content and make it better and more tailored to your voice. Just remember to credit the original source, and you can create original, engaging content that stands out.
The "Outline for Efficiency" Strategy
I maintain several outlines to help structure my articles efficiently. For instance, I have a specific outline for my newsletter, which caters to readers who prefer concise content. I also have different outlines for personal anecdotes, instructional pieces, and listicles. My comprehensive outline for my book keeps me organized and focused.
Utilizing outlines is one of my most effective time-saving strategies. Each outline provides a framework, including sections for bullet points or numbered lists. With just a topic in hand, I can quickly fill in the details.
The "Capture Ideas on the Go" Approach
Between building Lego towers and braiding my daughter's hair, I don’t spend much time brainstorming at my computer. However, I always keep an idea-capturing app readily accessible on my phone. It’s easy to jot down a headline or concept, even with one hand, allowing me to continue my day without losing track of inspiration.
Ideas can strike at any moment—from podcasts to conversations with friends or even comments from my children. The art of attentive listening often leads me to fantastic article ideas, many of which originate from sources outside my own thoughts.
The "Never Delete a Draft" Principle
One of the biggest mistakes a writer can make is deleting a draft that doesn't seem to be working. There was a time I deleted a beautifully crafted chapter because I thought it didn’t fit into my book. I’ve regretted that decision ever since.
I now have numerous drafts that I frequently revisit, and I often find hidden gems within them. Keeping these drafts allows me to rediscover old ideas that can be reworked into new content, saving time and effort down the line.
The "90-Minute Focus Sessions" Technique
In a previous article, I discovered that working in focused 90-minute blocks followed by short breaks can boost productivity. However, as a busy mom, my writing sessions are often interrupted.
I usually write for 90 minutes in the morning before my kids wake up. My productivity peaks during these sessions, and I can usually write six out of seven days a week. This approach allows me to make the most of my limited writing time.
The "Set Your Own Deadlines" Method
Even if no one else is imposing deadlines, it’s beneficial to set your own. I challenged myself to send out a new newsletter every Monday morning, and surprisingly, it worked. The pressure of a self-imposed deadline pushes me to focus and produce quality content, even if I do tend to procrastinate until the last minute.
The "Distraction-Free Writing" Strategy
To meet my deadlines, I need to write without distractions. This often means keeping my phone out of reach, as it can easily pull my attention away from my work. I also use applications that block distracting websites, allowing me to maintain focus.
The "Speedy Editing" Approach
Once I finish writing, it’s crucial to ensure that my work is polished and error-free. While I utilize tools like QuillBot for grammar checks, I find that hearing my work read aloud is incredibly beneficial. It helps me catch errors that I might overlook when reading silently. Using NaturalReader, I can listen to my work while multitasking, which saves valuable time.
Time-Saving Techniques = Profitability
As a creator, every minute saved in my process translates to more time available for new projects. When you discover efficient methods to streamline your creative process, you enhance your productivity and ultimately increase your output quality.
By giving yourself the luxury of time through these unconventional hacks, you not only improve your work but may also uncover even more unique strategies along the way. If you do stumble upon any new tricks, please share them with others!
