The Journey to Bali: A Long-Haul Adventure

Traveling to Bali is not a quick trip, especially if you're coming from far away. My own journey took around 23 hours in total, and it was quite the experience.

After a long flight, the excitement of reaching my destination is palpable, but the journey can feel endless.

Section 1.1: Flight Details

My itinerary was as follows: departing from Madrid, I had a long layover in Doha before continuing to Jakarta, and finally, a short flight to Bali. The entire flying time summed up to about 18.5 hours, with a ticket costing around €812. I chose Qatar Airways for the long haul, and their comfort certainly made a difference.

Section 1.2: Coping with Sleep Deprivation

Despite the comforts of the plane, adjusting to the long hours can be tough. Sleep was elusive for me, and after a marathon of 25 hours without rest, I began to feel the mental toll. Sleep deprivation can be challenging, so I recommend taking every opportunity to rest.

Once You Arrive: Getting Around Bali

Upon landing in Bali, I discovered an Indonesian app called "Grab," which made local travel incredibly affordable. My ride from the airport to my accommodation cost only €6.30, a price that felt almost like a bargain!

The first video offers insights into the author's experience of leaving everything behind to move to Bali. It explores whether the journey was worth the sacrifices made.

Jet Lag and Time Adjustment

Adjusting to the time difference was another challenge. I often woke up at 2 PM local time, which translated to 9 AM back home. To sync my body clock, I set an early alarm and forced myself to stay awake until 10 PM. This strategy eventually helped me adapt to Bali's time zone.

The Cost of Living in Bali

When it comes to expenses, Bali can be either surprisingly affordable or quite pricey, depending on your choices. Generally, costs can be about one-third of what you'd expect in Europe or America.

Section 2.1: Eating Out

Thanks to Grab, food delivery was very accessible. A meal could be ordered for $4–$7, and dining out at a nicer restaurant ranged from $4–$9. Alternatively, adventurous eaters could find street food for as little as $1.50, though caution is advised regarding food safety.

Section 2.2: Transportation

Transportation is incredibly cheap, with long rides costing around $12–$15 via Grab. If you're up for it, renting a scooter can be done for approximately $70 a month.

Activities and Adventures

Outdoor activities like hiking or surfing tend to be more expensive because they are often run by Australians. Expect to pay around $40–$90 for a full day of organized fun, while surf lessons can be found for as low as $10.

Living in Bali: A Cultural Contrast

Bali offers a unique lifestyle that contrasts significantly with Western norms, particularly regarding the warmth of its people and the natural environment.

Section 3.1: The People

Indonesians are typically friendly and welcoming. A smile and a greeting are common, and many are eager to share a drink or a conversation. However, many locals struggle financially and juggle multiple jobs to make ends meet.

Section 3.2: The Climate

Bali's weather can be unpredictable, with sunny mornings sometimes giving way to storms. However, the overall climate remains pleasant, with an average temperature of 28ºC (82ºF) year-round.

Life Quality in Bali

Contrary to popular belief, Bali's beaches can be stunning, depending on where you go. During my visit to Kuta Beach, the scenery was breathtaking, with vibrant sunsets and a backdrop of palm trees.

Conclusion: Is Bali Truly as Good as They Say?

In my opinion, Bali exceeded my expectations. The weather is fantastic, and the lifestyle is laid-back. Although prices can vary, the island's natural beauty and recreational opportunities make it a worthwhile experience. While it may not be a paradise, it certainly offers a refreshing alternative to life in Europe or America.

So, if you're contemplating a visit to Bali, don't hesitate!

The second video dives into the author's decision to invest $230,000 in moving to Bali, shedding light on the motivations and implications of such a life-changing choice.
