Navigating Success on Medium: A Writer's Journey

Chapter 1: Understanding Our Journey
Dear writers on Medium, we've reached a significant milestone. Now, what comes next?
One of the first things that stands out is the shift in attitudes.
Another observation is the decline in commitment.
Lastly, I often hear the phrase “Not my class.” Should I continue?
We work incredibly hard on Medium, striving for recognition and success. Our efforts are often rewarded, bringing us visibility and financial gain. Yes, we want to be compensated for our work!
However, we sometimes develop a sense of entitlement. Many writers appear so consumed by their own art that they forget the broader community. While millions create content, only a few engage through applause or comments, even though we all seek the same validation.
It can be tiring to reach out and connect with fellow writers, checking in on their progress and discovering the range of work they share. Not every piece is breathtaking—sometimes, even art can fall flat.
Note: The way we treat others and their contributions can deeply impact them. What about our commitment?
What do you think? I spoke to a local writer recently who was lamenting about Medium's shortcomings. When I asked when they last wrote, they replied, “Three weeks ago.” This response was shocking! How can one expect great results without consistent effort? Engaging with the community is essential, just as one doesn’t skip a day of prayer or neglect responsibilities at work.
As the saying goes, “You reap what you sow.”
What did I mention earlier? Yes, ‘Class’ is crucial here.
Many writers on Medium boast tens of thousands of followers. This status can make them feel like legends within the community. When you reach that level, it might seem like you can relax while others look up to you. You might think, “I’ve paid my dues; now it’s their turn.”
But that's misguided. It costs nothing to support fellow writers by commenting, applauding, or following them. Actively searching for new voices to uplift and motivate is essential. Medium has no cap on followers, so why the sense of superiority and detachment?
Medium has provided a platform for success. Now, what will you do with that opportunity?
Will you rest on your laurels? Will you watch from afar like a deity? Or will you take action, support your peers, and elevate Medium as a nurturing community?
Let’s strive to love, engage, and appreciate one another's work. Offer constructive feedback—season my writing with insights and let me know if it resonates. Let’s collaborate and support each other to achieve even greater heights.
After you've found your footing, how can you help others do the same?
