Rediscovering Life Beyond Social Media: My Journey After Facebook

Chapter 1: The Wake-Up Call
Reflecting on my time spent on social media, I remember my wife pointing out how much I was absorbed in my phone. I would scroll through Facebook and Instagram, consuming an endless stream of posts, ads, and updates from “friends.”
Often, I brushed off her concerns, claiming it was simply my way to unwind. Deep down, though, I felt I deserved these moments of escape after a long day working at a digital bank, teaching my daughter at home, and managing household responsibilities.
It was a small slice of “me time” that I wanted to defend to her—though I kept quiet to maintain peace. I insisted that my screen time was a trivial indulgence, a way to relax. But, eventually, I had enough.
After finishing some emails at work one day, I found myself sneaking peeks at Facebook and Instagram during breaks. However, I grew weary of the same old posts. While not all content was bothersome, much of it seemed trivial, filled with negativity and worldly distractions.
Without realizing it, I found myself influenced by the posts I viewed—leading to feelings of selfishness, greed, and envy.
The Decision to Disconnect
Feeling fed up, I made the choice to temporarily deactivate my Facebook and Instagram accounts. It was akin to finishing a bag of salty chips, realizing I had no desire to reach for another. I was curious about where this decision would lead me, knowing I wanted to escape the negativity that often surrounded me.
A More Fulfilling Life
Having followed Christ for many years, I knew I would always fall short in my spiritual journey while living in this earthly body. I thought I had reached a peak in my growth, but to my surprise, my hunger for God’s Word began to replace my screen time.
While I had always set aside time for daily Bible readings and quiet reflection, I never expected to crave more of His teachings. Each morning, I looked forward to opening my Bible, eager to discover what God had in store for me.
Transformation Through Writing
I have penned over 800 articles, and the Holy Spirit continues to inspire me to share His goodness through my writing. For my readers and fellow writers, anticipate more content that aims to touch your hearts and guide you on your journeys.
After all these years, I’ve come to realize that with God, I am complete.
