What to Do When Facing a Gloomy Day

Finding Solace in Solitude
Today has turned out to be one of those dreary days for me. I awoke to a dark, rainy morning, which set a somber tone for the day. As someone who thrives in the sunshine, this weather felt particularly challenging.
After having breakfast, which consisted of a nourishing bowl of sprouted moth beans mixed with onion, tomatoes, coriander, and a splash of lemon, I aimed to lift my spirits. The moth beans, known as Matki in India, were soaked overnight (or for at least five hours) and then sprouted between damp kitchen towels. In warmer months, they sprout quickly, while in winter, placing them in a switched-off oven helps.
Once prepared, I cooked the sprouts with oil, cumin seeds, garlic, onion, tomatoes, and a dash of spices like salt, red chili powder, and turmeric. Topped with fresh onion, tomatoes, coriander, and lemon, it was a delightful and nutritious meal.
After breakfast, I reached out to my parents, having missed our conversation the previous day due to a busy schedule. However, as I sat down to tackle my to-do list, the gloomy weather made it difficult to focus. Frustrated, I took a moment to pause, sitting quietly by the window to watch the rain. The soothing sound of raindrops hitting the ground felt like nature's embrace, and I realized that even on bleak days, there are moments to cherish.
Following that, I turned to some spiritual readings, hoping to connect with a higher power. As I read, tears flowed, and I felt a magical sense of being heard. Now, at 2:02 PM, I reflect on my day, realizing that despite not completing my tasks, I still feel fulfilled.
Listening to the birds while I write reminds me of nature's healing power. After this, I plan to unwind with some coloring. I recently saved a picture from a children's coloring event, which I intend to use for my own relaxation. Engaging in creative activities can be incredibly therapeutic.
After coloring, I might lie down, finish a task, or perhaps take a stroll outside. Even on challenging days, there's always a lesson to be learned. They remind us that it’s acceptable to have off days and that beauty can be found even in darkness.
How do you cope on tough days? Remember, unproductive moments can be magical in their own right. It's perfectly fine not to check everything off your list, to simply relax, to shed a few tears, or even to break the mold.
I hope you’re having a wonderful day!
